bnamunds
I opened my distributor cap today on my 88 Defender 2.5L petrol motor and found this; it must be modified or maybe an aftermarket setup because it doesn't match the factory specs or workshop manual. Pictures are below, can anyone identify what distributor this is so I can look up the appropriate service manual and get the tuning and troubleshooting specs? Thanks! timc1967
The rotor arm looks like one of these https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/series/series-3/parts/electrical/rtc3614-g-lucas-rotor-arm-ser-3-suffix-d-and-all-90110-4-cylinder-petrol.html as shown in the picture almost at the bottom of this page http://www.rovahfarm.com/defenderignitionpage2.htm
Bowie69
I'd say it was just a modified original distributor -Lucas 45D4. Very standard stuff, yours just has an aftermarket electronic ignition system fitted -if ti works, keep it, it makes a huge difference. If it doesn't , as it looks like yours has more removed than most kits require, need to find something that will fit yours by replacing that whole baseplate, or find another dizzy. Depends what you find out when you pull the rotor arm off, the trigger from the cam, and then remove the baseplate.
FridgeFreezer
Looks a hell of a lot like the Aldon Ignitor I had on my V8, decent bit of kit.
bnamunds
Thank you gentlemen! I've identified it as an Aldon/PerTronix electronic ignition. http://shop.pertronix.com/pertronix-lu-144-ignitor-lucas-45d-4-cyl-with-vacuum-advance.html#.Wb3FOtOGOCU
