western
Firstly, read the new mot rules, it may only apply to vehicle engine that meet euro 5 or 6 emission tegs, pretty sure yours is outside those regs, there is a draft copy of 2018 mot update on the gov.uk website. geezer
Hi i did read but got lost couldnt work out if i was icluded or not as to having a egr valve fitted came away feeling a bit thick realy
reb78
I read it too and it is unclear. The draft doesnt specifically mention the egr but makes a lot of mention of DPFs and catalyst type devices. It comes under the general heading of emissions and devices to reduce emissions, so EGRs arent stated explicitly at the moment but i guess may be included? I didnt get the impression it was only euro 5 or 6 vehicles either. Edited January 22, 2018 by reb78
FridgeFreezer
I found you *could* blank the EGR valve without any visible modification if you wanted. But, as others say, I'd wait to see what the facts of the MOT rules are as there's so much rumour and folklore about MOT rules on the internet. reb78
Not really folklore that they are going to make changes. Initial page here that takes you to the ‘draft’ changes. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mot-special-notice-01-18-inspection-manual-and-in-service-emission-data/mot-special-notice-01-18-inspection-manual-and-in-service-emission-data
FridgeFreezer
Didn't way it was folklore that they might make changes - but there is zero point worrying about some draft proposal which may not happen, and if they do happen they might be different to what's in the draft. And it might be 5 years away. And it might not affect cars older than XYZ etc. etc. etc.
reb78
True, but EGRs are currently dirt cheap. If a change occurs that leads to them needing to be refitted the prices will go up. I have the same issue with the D2 so think it’s a worthwhile thing to raise here. My egr was removed before I bought the car. £15 spent now on the guts of one might be money well spent is what I am thinking.
geezer
thats why i bought one for £10 even though my mot is Feb 18 its not going to take any room up in my shed plus if it does come happen in May 18 can you emagine how many owners will be after one then up goes the price
