That's a subjective view.  The P38 diff type axle has better ground clearance and is much cheaper to modify with different ratios and the Aschroft ATB (cheaper than competitors), but it's far more prone to failures than the Salisbury, especially the pinion bearings.  Still, no way would I replace it with a long nose Rover axle.
