P38 4.0 V8 radiator core depth

They are a very efficient modern radiator, so no need for any greater depth.

You simply can't compare to say, a series radiator.

Reason I ask is that I’ve been speaking to a well known ally radiator specialist who are adamant than nothing under a 50mm core will cool a V8 sufficiently. But then I saw that diagram which clearly states 40mm 🤷‍♂️

A 40mm core would be ideal for my project so if this is correct then it gives me more ideas to work on 👍

I’d also be interested in the height and width of the header tanks if anyone just happens to be walking past a P38 Thor rad with a tape measure in their hand....😉

If anybody can also tell me the thread size of the gearbox oil cooler hose fittings that would also be appreciated.

Well, personally I think that is nonsense, if it is a specialist aftermarket rad manufacturer of course they are going to say that, or you won't buy one of theirs.

Also, aftermarket stuff tends to be a coarser core than modern stuff, making them less efficient, if that is what they are using, then perhaps ask if they can use something more akin to a modern oem radiator.

Otherwise, I would be trying to fit the largest off the shelf item possible.

I would always try to use an OE unit if you can cobble it in. From what I have seen, aftermarket/custom rads have hefty fins and tubes more suited to an intercooler IMO.

I have got a Lexus LS400 one here, which produces far more HP than a Rover, and its only about 20mm thick.

I don’t suppose you have the dimensions of the Lexus radiator do you?

I was wondering if I could get a standard P38 rad recored to reduce the height. Width is fine🤔
