daveturnbull
My detail sander stopped working. It does this when powered on. I've checked the brushes, they are fine. Is it scrap?
Stellaghost
Have you tried cleaning the surfaces that the brushes run on just use a bit of fine wet and dry and polish them up and try again regards Stephen
HoSS
Clean the commutator (surface and between the gaps. Check the brushes are long enough and that the springs work.
Peaklander
I had a similar problem with my DA sander and ordered new brushes when a cleanup of the commutator failed. I was a bit suspicious as the old ones still had some length in them but it seemed to work better. Not long after it stopped again. It was one of the two support bearings which had gone tight. A very few £ later and it's perfect again.
HoSS
If you connected a meter on resistance across the brushes (power off) and rotate the motor slowly you should have a more or less constant resistance (it may jump a little) but if you have any spot thats short, open or very different it will indicate your problem. I would expect in the low 10's of ohms.
