steve b
.....could be - simple to try and if it is that , a lot cheaper than having the FIP checked Steve
KenyaDefense
BTW, I checked all fuel lines today, no pinches or anything abnormal. Is there any servicing that can be done on the FIP prior to removal that might indicate low fuel passage?
steve b
Not that I can think of. Steve
monkie
1 hour ago, KenyaDefense said: No smoke seems to indicate lack of fuel at combustion. I would have thought that poor injectors to cause noticeable drop off in power would cause knocking and smoking. I would be checking valve clearance when engine is cold and then follow up with a compression test.
KenyaDefense
Will go after clearances tomorrow when the sun comes up... Will try the stop solenoid test first.
Will@LRW
Check the black adjuster nut on the throttle cable to the rear of the FIP has all the slack taken out
KenyaDefense
Got that already checked, thanks
monkie
Here's a question for the Bosch VE experts that might help this situation... On the land rover 19J turbo diesel engine if you have a split boost diaphragm the CAV FIP is unable to give extra fuel to burn as the boost pressure increases causing a definite drop in power especially noticeable up hills. How does this mechanism work on the 300tdi, I'm assuming it must have parallels... Could a similar issue happen causing the problems the OP is observing? KenyaDefense
Boost diaphragm meaning the diaphragm inside the FIP? I have triple checked it, and even had my teenage son with better eyesight than me have a long gander, nothing.
monkie
Yes, that is the thing I'm talking about.
KenyaDefense
I question fuel delivery on and off boost. The boost diaphragm would only reasonably affect on-boost, right? But if the pin inside the FIP were slightly sticking, wouldn't that affect underfueling across the board?
KenyaDefense
Sorry to inform, but all fuel is good. It is the clutch plate dying of all things! A friend came to give second opinion and knew immediately...
steve b
Clutch slip ? Well on the plus side you now know the fuel system is all good.. Steve
