Hazza
Quick question as I'm not near the Land Rover currently. Does anyone know the diameter of the rear portion of a NAS light? I'm trying to work out what size of hole saw I need to fit them through the body work. Thanks!
miketomcat
A holesaw doesn't help you as you need a lug each side to mount them. Mike
PaulMc
You only need a hole large enough to clear the removeable bulb holder - If you're fitting them to a vehicle that already has the 73mm lamps with removeable bulb holders - the bulb holders are the same, and the existing holes can be used. There are Genuine plinths that facilitate this conversion, see Martin's post here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72943.html If you're fitting them to an earlier vehicle with the 73mm lamps with wire tails and bullet terminals, the centre hole will need to be enlarged to 45mm and, possibly, not on the same centre. There are plinths that allow you to retain the existing centres, see here - https://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/22745-nas-lights/ A much neater way to enlarge the holes (especially if moving the lamp's centre), is to use a Q-Max hole punch - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134422886398 . muddy
If you are using the plinths are good die grinding bit is just as easy.
Hazza
Thanks for all of the input. I'm using the plinths as per the image that PaulMc has shared - so it sounds like 73mm is my target! I'm only replacing the fog and reverse with NAS lights, but will double up on each side so just the 4 holes to drill. Thankfully this means they don't clash with existing holes so a holesaw should work nicely for me.
Hazza
Just to close this off - hole saw size required is 45mm to clear the bulb-holder part. PaulMc correctly stated this in his post - I just misread it!
