Oil and Coolant Diagnosis

Hi everyone,

I've recently done a big road trip in my 1986 12j 90 and I've come across a few leaks. 

Any help with diagnosing them and what the best course of action is would be greatly appreciated.

Replace the core plug, 

Rubber bung missing from camshaft bearing oil drilling, there are 3 of these on that side of block

Check the pipes are not cracked or rusted & replace the rocker cover seal under the nut

the "rubber bung" is more likeli a dab off sealant (at least on 200tdi it is)

Nope they are proper rubber bungs for that job 

LR part ERR5034 Plug camshaft oil feed x 3

it seems you are quit right ... , i seem to remember reading somewhere (tought it was in the overhaul manual) , that it was sealant ..

on my engine there's some sort off steel plug's in the hole's and only 2mm under the surface off the block , so a propper rubber bung wouldn't fit , could that be a later "fix" ?

I would guess that metal plug was added by a previous owner, 

My 200tdi was brand new in mid 1994 & the rubber plugs were factory fit.

would I be able to drive my landie safely until I can sort these parts out or is it best left alone?

Just keep a eye on the core plug & oil way plug, best to sort them as soon as you can.

I’d say the core plug is a fairly urgent job as it looks ready to pop out.  The oil plug and the mist from the rocker cover retaining nut are common enough and are not going to lose a significant amount of oil, just make a small mess.
