gmar25
Hi, I've inherited my dad's 1992 defender 90 200tdi which he restored. It sat for about a year and now has lost all clutch pressure. Was working fine as far as I know. First time I got into it and pressed clutch pedal it went to floor, with good resistance, but wouldn't return. I didn't hear any untoward noises. There is now no resistance when pulling the pedal up or pressing it down by hand. I've read around the forum and see that a frozen clutch is a common issue after sitting unused. Would it result in a limp pedal that has no resistance in any direction? I've taken the slave cylinder off which is not seized. Can't see any leak from master cylinder either. I also inspected clutch pivot arm (?if thats the right term) in bell housing with an endoscope and it looked intact. After refitting the slave and eventually getting it bled (had to use a vacuum bleeder as clutch pedal wasn't pushing fluid through) I've driven it a short distance in first gear. Had to start it in gear. Still the clutch pedal is limp. There was no change in height of the fluid in master cylinder. Would a frozen clutch cause these symptoms? Maybe it's an issue with the master cylinder? What brand of master and slave cylinder would be recommended? Thanks for reading! steve b
Welcome to the forum, With the hassle bleeding it I'd say the MC has failed. I'd replace both if you can - TRW are ok A stuck clutch means the drive plate is stuck to the flywheel and can often be freed with some careful driving with the pedal held down and some on/off throttle. See what it's like with a new MC Steve

landroversforever
As above, my suspicions would lie with the master cylinder. Any fluid on the pedal?
Sigi_H
If the master is to be replaced consider a Dorman conversion: https://heiderei-ch.translate.goog/Kupplungshydraulik.html?_x_tr_sch=http&_x_tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=de&_x_tr_pto=wapp
gmar25
So have the master cylinder off with pedal box. The master is toast. Not taken it apart yet but maybe spring has snapped. Got a TRW master and slave to go on. Also got a braided clutch line from brt motorsport. Unfortunately the slave took most of the threads with it coming off. Run an M8 tap down and resurrected it. New slave on. Waiting for the pedal box to dry before installing. Some photos:
gmar25
Sigih_H that makes for an interesting read. Had bought the direct replacement but next time might make for a more permanent solution
