Army110
Hi, I’ve recently bought a 1987, ex army, v low mileage, 110. I’ve had the car checked over and have had the batteries replaced. Oil and fuel lines have been checked and are all in order. I’ve only recently gotten the plates for the car however I have been running the engine regularly and it has been driven under trade plates over some distance. However, now when I turn the ignition there is no sound from engine. Just a new whirring noise. The electrics all work fine. Any thoughts/ideas on what’s the problem? Thanks in advance
western
Stuck solenoid on the starter, make sure the small white/red trace wire is secure on the solenoid terminal
Retroanaconda
Did the problem start when the batteries were replaced?
Snagger
Is the whirring loud or faint? If loud, then it would appear the starter motor is spinning but not engaging the flywheel ring gear. It could be a faulty starter or the ring gear, stripped teeth being the most likely cause. I don’t think the starter has a Bendix, so not likely to be a sticking throw, but I stand to be corrected.
