d-90
HI, Looking on making my own halfshafts for my 90, and have put my hands on a book manual that mentions different kind of splines and norms...Didn´t understand if 24 spline LandRover is a "British Standard" norm, or some kind of DIN norm...Any help on this? Thanks
BogMonster
10 spline on older vehicles 24 spline on newer ones and generally reckoned to be stronger no idea on "norms" never heard of it! why make your own? they are available for next to nothing as cheap aftermarket parts and if you want super HD ones then you will probably have a lot of false starts in tempering etc before you get to the level of the likes of Ashcrofts

BogMonster
oh I see... sorry - way over my head then - I can only count to 10 or 24 and as far as I am concerned the spline is the groovy bit in the end and I don't know if it is British or normal or making a din I'll leave you to it then
Bush65
The 10 spline half shafts have SAE straight sided splines. The 24 spline half shafts have involute splines. In my limited experience, axles use side fitting, diametral pitch splines, not metric module. If I get a chance over the weekend, I will measure some and calculate the DP. The pressure angle will be obvious.
Hybrid_From_Hell
The pressure angle will be obvious. Well, it made me laugh Nige

Bush65
OK, had a look at the splines on 24 spline rover half shafts. They are 30 deg pressure angle, 20/40 diametral pitch, fillet root, side fitting, involute splines.
