jameslwt
How easy is it to retro-fit a sunroof to a 1996 defender? I haven't taken the head lining down yet, so don't know about stiffening ribs. Are there any at the front? Cheers James (why am I asking this when it's raining!! )

Seriously check the outside to see if there are any rivets where you would expect ribs to be. A new headlining is required to finish the job properly along with an internal plastic trim that fits to the inside of the sunroof and holds the headlining around the sunroof surround. John unless you have one kicking around it may be as cheap to replace the roof, i picked up a county roof with f&R headlining alpne lights and sunroof for £100, by the time you get a new front lingin £25/30, sunroof £40 it soons adds up plus you might get £30+ for your roof replacing roof isnt much of a job complared to f**kin about fitting one, if however though you got that route use a thick marker to draw round the glass where sunroof goes, that will give you the tollerance for your rubber seal. SteveG
personally I wouldn't bother. I had one on the 50th and it used to get on my nerves. Used to collect condensation overnight and then it would drip on your head/face once you get going Cheers Steve

Many a winter mornig ive got out & it looks like ive p****d myself because its dripped on my trouser. A 1996 Defender has a center rib, that needs to be cut to allow the sunroof to be fitted.
