Nick
I've a friend with a 110 county 12 seater, E reg 2.5 turbo (not tdi). A kind soul borrowed it and cooked the engine, which now only just runs and sounds very nasty. Question is how to proceed from here?? How much would a decent 2nd hand motor cost? What would the car be worth as is? - or when fully repaired?? My initial feelings are that it is probably worth repairing, but I haven't a clue how much a replacement motor would cost. Anybody care to give their tuppence worth?? Thanks
paradigm shift
I don't profess to know much about Land Rovers, but going on what my local LR specialist says I wouldn't bother rebuilding the 2.5TD as it's a pants engine. Find a 200TDi or something and put it in though I don't know if there are any gearbox issues. This is assuming the chassis is reasonable. At the end of the day Land Rovers seem to hold their value well so personally I'd fix it. Put whatever engine takes your fancy in, it's not like the engine bay is strapped for space! I'm sure someone with real knowledge will be able to offer a much more detailed view, but those are my thoughts anyway.

Thanks 110s are makeing good money at the moment. We just sent a good E plate TD to auction, nice condition, it made £3300. If this one is solid and reasonable its worth doing well. Cheap option is a s/h 2.5 turbo and out it quick. Nice option is either a Disco 200 or Defender 200.
was a nice truck?
Fix it with a 200Tdi, As it is nearly a straight swap. Or to put it another way it would be the easiest thing after just replacing the 2.5 with another.
pigster
Fix it. A newer engine for it will not be tooo bad, 200tdi disco lump is what £800, a fair bit of faffing to get it all to fit properly mind you. or a def engine is 1500 roughly.. having said that you can get a 110 for approx 3G with the 200tdi engine already in.. (autotrader there are several in there) Choice is yours - - I doubt you will get much for a 110 with no engine... best bet £800 quid, assuming its all working fine.
