JST
What do we all reckon - woudl a TD air filter and housing provide sufficient air flow for a tdi engine?
western
Most likely, but I'd use the correct parts if available.
V8 Freak
And if you could.... (Sorry JST.. Not trying to hijack, just wonder if people can answer both in one....) Would a 300TDi airbox be good enough for a 3.9 V8? (Part number ESR2102) (Ralph.. Trash if I've been a naughty boy..) Neil
JST
no problem Neil. Ralph its a disco tdi going (well gone) into a Def and theres no room for the tdi air filter box (not where i want it anyway) but the TD one will fit!
western
Try it & can't see why it shouldn't work, both engines would draw the same amount of air as they are the same cubic capacity. Neil, as above try it.
JST
cheers ralph, will give it a go and see what happens. same capacity but one has an intercooler and higher (?) pressure turbo so isint the air compressed more so therefore more air goes in to the cylinder? therefore it needs to draw more air??? a turbo 2.5 certainly draws more air than a N/A

nobber
they are different though , funnily enough im looking for a td filter and box and sat in my shed is a disco filter and box that i cant use.

The amount of air drawn is higher in a TDI because it is running at higher boost. A TDI at 15 psi versus a TD at 6 psi draws (15 + 14.7) / (6 + 14.7) = 43% more air. Actually a little less due to losses into the cylinders, but that is the ballpark.
V8 Freak
Thanks James and Ralph.... Now to compile a list of required parts for the Classifieds section..... Neil
