tonycougar
I've just been reading Les Hensons LT230 rear bearing replacement guide and I'm wondering can I apply the same theory to replace-ing the front bearing? I'd also like to add that I have used a few of Les's "how to's" now and without them I couldn't have completed the job. Thanks Les you are a star. Les Henson
I've never done the front bearing Tony. The front bearing is different from the rear in that there is always some play in it. Some people assume that because the bearing moves - it's worn out, but this is normal. Les.

Tonk
the front bearing is held in place by a circlip, easy to change but u'd have to strip the front output housing off to do so. i'd change the seal first to solve the leak, if there isn't excessive play in the bearing also look at the running surface on the output flange for wear. Lars L
Here is a writeup from Discoweb: http://www.discoweb.org/tcasebearing/index.htm I haven't done it myself so I can't promise that it works from hands on.

white90
if there is 4-8mm lateral movement it is fine the bearing is a roller type and a brand new lt230 will have the same
