gruntus
Chaps, I will start the strip and rebuild of my 200tdi defender engine in the new year. I am obviously going to need new top and bottom end gasket sets (and whatever else I find ). I was going to get all the parts from Craddock but want the parts to be right but not gold plated expensive........ Given the recent ebay OEM/Dealership parts "scandal" I wondered if you guys had recommendations for the above? Thanks for your advice and help as always Cheers Grant
Lars L
I buy my parts from a local (Swedish) supplier who gets his stuff mainly from Allmakes (instead of Britpart as he did previously). The gasket sets I received looked fine to me and have done what they were supposed to do. Apart of course from the rear crank seal where genuine is the only way to go. All the important parts, bearings, piston rings, water pump etc, were OEM also from Allmakes.
lrfarmer
hi I use brookwells devon as there down the road. but thay don't do mail order. so i use paddock Spares online for any thing elce i need, if you order over £50+vat thay do free postage. witch if end up doing alot £50 dosen't take long to get too. western
the last set of top & bottom overhaul gaskets I bought were Elring make & camr via my local LR parts independent, STC1557 bottom end STC1172 top end both are LR part numbers as most suppliers use these as a reference for their kits. Phil Hancock
I have given up using the hard genuine seals as on my 2.5NA i had 1 fail after about 5000miles from a rebuild, a second about a month later, my local engine shop admitted he also had problems with the hard seals sometimes with no obvious reason/cause, changed to a soft orangy/red seal(Allmakes or sh@tpart) and job done. They were both fitted as per the green bible, the second one had fallen out!.
gruntus
Thanks for the responses gents, is there a decided preference with going LR genuine or Paddocks/Craddocks? The other question (here we go again ) is regarding the rear crank seal, I read a thread recently on the forum where someone used an alternative rear crank seal that didn't leak! Anyone else had experience of such a holy grail as that? Cheers G
