ive got a recently purchased 300tdi auto with the edc ,throttle potentiometer etc .. ive read where people have swappd for the mechanical pump +accelerater cable etc ...

my question is the edc setup almost guaranteed to fail ? or do any of em run without problems..mines done 85k im changing my cambelt very soon ..if its sort of a foregone conclusionthat the edc setup will play up am i best to change it to mechanical whilst im at it..

thanks.glenn

Hi again Glenn,

Mines a 97 Tdi 300 XS Auto, now with 130000 on the clock. I have previously changed the cam belt etc in the past and I can honestly say I have had no problem at all from the EDC. Up tp yet it has served me well.

Regards

Ivan

I think the majority have problems with the EDC but they're not major breakdown problems more like niggly faults.

Mine is a 95 300tdi EDC with 105k on the clock, it has a couple of minor faults which I put down to the EDC system, having said that have you driven a Disco without EDC? They feel so slow the EDC really seems to perk things up a bit

and you can 'chip' the EDCs if you want a bit more.

You can also get adjustable 'chips' so you can turn the power up & down depending on your mood (and how long you want the engine to last ;-)

As has been said they can suffer from niggly faults but they are relatively easy to track down given the right tools & info.

I changed mine to mechanical as I had several problems with the EDC on mine and it was cheaper (and less time consuming) to fit a second hand mechanical pump than it was to fix the EDC.

I don't agree that a non-EDC disco feels sluggish in comparison I actually think that mine feels better now that it is non-EDC but I have tweeked the pump slightly so is not totally standard.

Mine had 115,000ish on the clock when I changed the pump.

I think if you are not having any problems, then you may as well leave it as it is.

Pete.

i think ill leave it and see how it goes then ..the only other thing with it is theres a ticking or light buzzing noise coming from the injection pump with the ignition on+engine not running .. its there with the engine running too but obviously easier to notice with it it not running near my pump theres 2 multi connecters.. the large one with about 6 or 8 wires to it doesnt stop it if you disconnect it ... but when you disconnect the other one with 3 wires .....orange/blue or black stripe, white,+brown wires going to ........ black+white, brown,+black at pump .. ive never heard any injection pump tick or buzz b4 ..but ive never had one of these edc things ..do they make any noise in normal operation or is somat funny with this one ? ive just looked at the cd .. it shows a solenoid operated valve energization timing device at the bottom of pump..then 3 wires coming off one connection 2 going to the ecm +one going to the fuel temperature sender ... anyone got a clue if these would cause a buzzin or ticking ? apart from that its going fine B)

well thats me sorted out then ..keep the edc + "buzzing along " ha ha .. thanks to everyone for their help, much appreceated glenn

Howdy all!! :o

I am on my 3rd Tdi ex Japan where just about all were EDC. The buzzing is the 'inteligent injector' (#4) and the only part that really will give issues. One of mine went west and the replacement was NZ$500 + fitting. Having said that, not too common according to my LR specialist.

EDC is good. No worries.
