green truck
i have a 300 tdi first problem is the turbo is burned through.i have put a new turbo and 30000 km and same problem.second problem it is smoking (black smoke).recalibrate pump and put new injector tips. the problem is still there. send the engine to bearing works. new pistons new rings .the head is redone .after a lot of money the same problem is still there. is there anyone that could help me with info ? after to new turbo's fitted i have change my turbo to a vnt turbo.lots of boost at low revs, but the problem with no top end is still there. i have checked every possible thing but is still missing some thing.it is as if there is not anougth air going to the pistons, that the reson for smoking so much.is there any one that could tell me how to check cam wear without taking the cam out? Les Henson
You can strip the drivers side of the engine and then be able to see the cam lobes (might have to use a mirror for a few though. Have you got the EGR valve still fitted/connected? Les.
green truck
no mine is not fitted with the valve.i want to know what the (lift) depression of the valve shoud be.i think that the valves do not open sufficiantly, there for a lack of air. if i rev it up while driving it gives off black smoke and when the revs go higher (with my throttle constand after reving it up) the smoking stops.at top end there is no power so i just smokes. when i opened the enjine i inspected the cam and it looked right, but know i am at a dead end . RRX
You say you have fitted a vnt? any pics and do you have anything taking readings from the engine like a EGT guage and boost guage? If so what are they reading?
Mo Murphy
Drawing warm air from the engine bay can make a difference. I believe Exmoor beast on here found that out with his 200 Tdi. HTH Mo
western
a good diesel specialist should be able to fully test Bosch 2 stage injectors, when mine were done the guy had no problems testing them. really needs to draw in clean air from outside, recheck the pump & engine timing too. there's a diesel fault diagnosis chart in the tech archive index, that may help. green truck
You say you have fitted a vnt? any pics and do you have anything taking readings from the engine like a EGT guage and boost guage? If so what are they reading? hi ive took some photo's and check it out .the vnt is a good turbo it can take a lot of hammering. it just took a bit of time to ajust it to work propperly.the vnt comes from a MBenz sprinter 2.7 l.the control of the valve is electronicaly.i have change it to manually.i used the old actuator from my old turbo.the actuaor is set for 0.9 bar pressure, but the vnt pressurise so fast that it woulg go past 1.2 bar before the actuator kicks in. i had to rest the vnt to rev ap slower.i ajusted the vains (fins) and now it works well.i have blown a few small pipes, but i think it is deu to the engine not preforming well.very high egt, yesterday after all my new ajustments to the engine its not running that hot anymore if you set the vnt turbo vains closed(forcing the exhaust gas in the tubo ) you can get as mutch as 0.3 bar on ideling.mine is set to deliver full boost on 1800 rpm.that gives you low end torque.after i fitted the turbo (with the engine problems ) the dyno showed max torque at 1850 rpm.if you have torque at low revs you go through the gears very easely.it seems that the gear ratios are very short. i am satisfied with the turbo ,just need to get the engine to run as it supposted to be. i have uploaded the pictures hope you can see them
