Bush65
Visit this thread for updated progress of the Outback Challenge. There are a few entrants from the UK this year. Unfortunately the vehicles only arrived Friday, but they got through customs by the afternoon and headed for Broken Hill (about 15-16 hour drive). Bush65
The event finished yesterday, after a week of tough competition. The only competitors from the UK to finish were Dave and Pam White in a Land Rover - 963 points placed them 25th. AFAIK they didn't have any major damage to prevent them completing a stage or taking a 100 point penalty for outside assistance. Neil Redpath and Ellis Fleming in an Ibex retired with a seized engine - 797 points placed them 30th. Gary Smith and John Riley in a Range Rover retired after blowing 3 diffs - 451 points placed them 39th. It was a hard event and due to the pace, many of the favourite teams failed to finish (mechanical failure or accident damage). Gone are the days when rangies dominated - they are not fast enough or strong enough. The best placed were 13th (1378 points) and 21st (1081 points). The winning Nissan Patrol finished with 2079 points. Below are some pics of the winning Nissan, Neil's Ibex and (I'm guessing) Dave's Land Rover, from the 1st day.
