renault4
Is it advisable to replace the bolts and nuts when removing/fixing the prop shafts? I was just thinking, what a garage would do if they were changing the UJs. probably use the old ones.
Guest diesel_jim
I tend to use mine a coulpe of times, then replace, for what they cost...pence. although its only the nuts i usually change as the nylock bit gets worn out.
mmgemini
Why take the diff drive flange off each time ? If the bolts are in from the prop they are incorrectly fitted. In that case you cannot tighten the nuts easily or correctly. mike
Mo Murphy
Nyloc nuts should only be used once so change the nuts each time you take the prop off. The bolts will be fine. Mo
JimAttrill
I agree with Diesel Jim, change the nuts as they don't cost much. Remember there are two lengths of bolts, the ones at the handbrake are longer, and difficult to change because you have to remove the driving member to get them out, so those are normally left alone anyway. And whatever you do, do not replace the UNF bolts and nuts with cheap Metric stuff.
