fender1234
hi, ive currently got 35"/12.5"/15" tyres on my 90, they are pro comp and are similar to bfg style tread, and havnt broke anything yet, if i was to upgrade to somthing grippier i.e. maxxis muddzilla/creepy crawler will it quite likely destroy everyting and should i go down in size a bit. thanks
white90
All depends on driving style I had Simex on for a while with standard drive train. go crazy and yes you'll bust: CVs halfshafts Diff centres
fender1234
im thinking maybe go down to 33 as i cant justify spending the money on cv's and i dont want to be breaking stuff everytime i go out. I it mainly rear axle parts that go or front? thanks
white90
No mainly bit As CV's are easy to bust if you apply power with steering lock The best way is to not go bonkers, if you get stuck stop trying to drive and get recovery under way
FridgeFreezer
As Tony says, it's all driving style. You can run big tyres if you're careful or you can destroy your drivetrain running 31's if you really try.

white90
I bust my first CV on 33M/Ts trying to climb Putham Lane very simply but a tricky climb on Rock
fender1234
My tyres seem to just lose grip before any damage is done .

I have never broken anything... though admittedly there is not much rock crawling to be had here Famous last words
fender1234
im not wreckless but i thought maybe where i would just wheelspin and give up now, if i had grip would it be too much for standard parts to cope with
landmannnn
It's all about the grip/no grip. A spinning wheel that suddenly finds grip will impose huge shock loads on the transmission components. Spinning two wheels on the verge and then steering onto the (dry) tarmac will often break something. Similarly grippy tyres off road are more likely to dig down and find grip. If you drive following the "rules" ie 2nd low, walk the ground first, controlled throttle etc you can run whatever tyres you like.
