landrover598
Anyone got any idea what could be causing a clonk my landy had developed 1984 rangy (underneath a defender body) It's a single clonk coming from the rear axle when the vehicle changes direction of lean (on roundabouts for example) All the bushes are tight and as new, prop is as new, A-frame ball joint is a few months old, Scorpion +1 springs and shocks, diff / halfshafts are a tiny bit worn, wheel bearings and nuts are fine And there is nothing lying loose in the back of the landy either
bishbosh
Despite your assertions, I would suspect the A frame ball joint. Do you get a clonk when you pick up drive (other than the usual drive train clunk of course! )
landrover598
non apart drive train, just when the vehicle changes from leaning one way to the other

Mark90
Have you fitted some catches to those drawers yet?
landrover598
yes but the drawers are in the garage, waiting to be painted
Mark90
Unlikely to be the drawers then I'd say Best check what Nige says then
bishbosh
Well if you're sure it is not the drawers then I'd say Nige has hit the nail on the head with a loose shock mount.
Niall_CSK
Did you do the A frame bushes. I know it's a hobby horse of mine but they are so often forgotten and so important. Do you still have a Boge strut? If so there is a ball joint at each end of that, again often forgotten about. Do you know the history of your bushes? It is practically impossible to tell how good they are with 2 tons of Landy sitting on them (unless they are really shot), so don't rule the bushes out unless you are sure. landrover598
All the bushes were changed a few months before i bought the donor vehicle (june) with standard landy rubber and I removed the boge when i rebuilt the vehicle. The clonk seems to have stopped for the moment, but i'm sure it'll return in typical land rover fashion
