wall street
If I was to upgrade my existing 8274-50 motor to a 6hp xp motor would I need to brace the winch as the motor seems to be significantly heavier. Also what else would people recommend doing? Thanks
JST
i'd recommend selling the old motor to Si White assuming it still works etc!!! Most of the XP ones i have seen have had additional brackets added for the motor weight, i think some of this is in the tech arch.
will_warne
Did Si break his, then Yes, bracing is a good idea, particularly on an older winch. These motors are quite heavy. Also, the internals may start having problems with the sort of power they push out. Its not unheard of for the mainshaft to snap. However, D90 SV on here sells an uprated mainshaft to deal with that problem.

I am still waiting for Jim to get back to me on the uprating of my two 8274's to 24V so I may well have two 8274/50 motors for sale soon.
