patrick4wd
Hello.. As a new member, have some question about lifting my TD5. (I hope to fit larger tires later this year) I would like to keep the airsuspention setup, = very nice. have read about 2inch blocks which have to be mouted above (I would think) the airbag. How easy/ difficult is this job? and more important, who offers these kits? And for tires, am thinking of 18inch A/T's. 275/75? Who has experience with sutch a lift and fitting these tires? found any problems? Thanks, best regards from Holland! Patrick
M&S
Hi, and welcome to the forum. Having just replaced an airspring today I don't know of a spacer that would fit on top of the airbag. It might cause problems with the air pipe (unless you fitted an 90' elbow) and also the way the bag clips at the top would have to be re designed. A simpler option I think would be a spacer for the bottom. I think you would need to add spacers to the linkage arms (for the ride height) or reprogramme the ECU to learn the new standard height (and the fact it can lift another 2"). As for the tyres, they will be a whopping 34.25" heigh!! I think the back would be ok with this, but at the front you'll almost certainly have problems with fouling. I'm haven't done it, but expect that the front bumper would need trimming and the arch liners will definiately need removing. I'm interested to hear how you get on with this though, and from anyone that has done it.
dangerous doug
you can get 2" spacers to go under the air bags with a bracket to ajust the ride hight sensor. our D2 has 2" coils and 33" jungle trekkers.....with a massive arch chop they just fit. i would go down the same route that we did and ditch the air and fit coils, if a bag goes bang when your out the bigger tyres will soon fill up your arch, and they do go. coil is £60 (ish) you will never have to worry about new air springs again. patrick4wd
Ok.. tire would be pretty big indeed... Hmmm Was thinking more in about 32inch-or half a inch more.. I wasn't sure if these spacers would fit under or above the bag... And would it ever go "bang"? (the airbags) and pictures please!!! would like to have a preview of things to come... see image for what I have in mind.... thanks!! M&S
Looks good. The airbag could go "bang", or it could leak and leave the tyres sat in the arches. You may need to fit a longer bump stop to prevent fouling should the suspension become fully compressed or fail. As I say, I'm no expert at this, I'm just thinking out loud myself. Check this out for tyre sizes http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html I am thinking about a 1" lift at the front with slightly stiffer springs, but I've been told that I can reprogramme the air suspension to know that it is 1" higher so the airbags will lift the back the 1" as they are. That'll leave me 15mm to lift in "off-road" mode.

Looks very nice indeed!! specially the 33 inch (on 15 inch wheels?) i didn't thought they would fit! And as 15 inch tires are better priced.. Hmmm.. Can/ could you mail me what/ how/ where you chopped what off? thanks!

patrick4wd
Any details on this ride? lift, tyre size?Any thoughts on a small body lift, say 1 inch? Cheers. Hello, I found this picture on a US LR site, without any information about the car, lift or anything. I'm pretty sure it was for sale.. dangerous doug
had a measure, the jungle trekkers are actually the 34" ones and they are on a 16" rim. to get the tyres to fit the bumper had to be chopped down, the rock sliders had to be trimmed, the plastic inner arches went, the arches are for a disco 1 but they sit about an inch higher than they should. the big problem was with the rear doors lots of measuring and carefull trimming. we looked in to body lifts but decided they wernt really worth the time you do gain a little better arch clearance but no ground clearance. booooooooo! ride with the JT2's is surprisingley smooth! they howl and it sounds like your being dive bombed by a spitfire but they have dyna beads in there and some lead on the side, all is well so far. it still has the ACE on there too so cornering isnt too bad either! anyone wants more info PM me
