white90
I found it easier to remove the top of the winch for the breather to be fitted. these are banjo style so easy to fit and line up.
Tonk
i use those type of breathers all over my land, axles, g/box etc, but i've never found the need to put a breather on my 8274's, i seal the motor on when fitting, never get mud inside
white90
any reasonable dunking risks water getting in through the drum seal. as for water in the motor have a look at this: http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/muddy90@b...dnm=d878re2.jpg I've had water in the gearbox and motor after them being under for a while. after seeing the breather s added in this thread: HERE and on Ceds winch I ordered a few to fit to mine, better safe than sorry I guess.
