pathfinder
bought a 1989 110 county from breakers yard (very cheap)with a very smoky and tired 19j td of which I replaced with an extremely good 200 tdi, it had been stood for two years apparently and was covered in a green film and lots of moss around the windows, some items had already been stripped off it but nothing too drastic, anyway on taking on this project I set out to make it less family estate car and more rugged looks so decided to remove the rear windows I made a thin galvanised steel panel and folded each end over 20mm and secured it on the side after removing the sliding windows, used a couple of rivets at each end and some 'gripfill' bonding mastic as a contact adhesive and must say I am pleased with the results! it will look even better when it is resprayed in a few days time! Gavin Hatton
I'm planning this same job for later this year. I'm going to use a pair of Series II 88" hard top panels, they're the same size as the 110 station wagon panels.
pathfinder
I was going to do just that but this way turned out to be cheaper and much easier!, land rover do a 110 model like this its called '110 utility' I think it looks much better than the minibus style of station wagon and better privacy

pathfinder
today it is being prepared for painting and then I will put all its decals on it, looking at lining the loadspace in chequer plate I did it with my disco and was amazed at the results I am also plating the footwells as I dislike carpets in a land rover, then fit 12v sockets everywhere and I realy want a mudstuff uk centre dash console and tunnel tray they are expensive but the best. my original idea for the project was to create a camel trophy film unit 110 replica I have even got 3 litres of sandglow paint but changed my mind as with replicas I would have stuck to the original look rather than create my own so therefore be limited. also Ive got a 40mm lift kit yellow springs and dampers, hd front turrets and I specified that I wanted the rear hd springs used on the rear for the front too so it wont sit higher at the back like most do put am in no major rush to fit them as its heavy time consuming work and I did my disco in a day on my own but these springs are much bigger and heavier than the disco springs then waxoyl the chassis

Gavin Hatton
Looks a whole lot better, how did you go about spraying it, did it your self or get it done professionally?
pathfinder
well the paint job was all done on the cheap, I spent 3 days preparing it and a mate of mine painted it using 2pack paint mix from different reds he had lying around so the paint was not bought especially and I did most of the labour but it cost less to paint than it would to valet and I have always found that the little bits of detail make a good job too like badges and stickers placed in the right place! also deceided to take the front bumper off and fit a standard one I am in no massive rush to get a winch and this bumper is for a big hydraulic winch anyway, going to fit roofrack today possibly

pathfinder
recently lifted the suspension 40mm rear and 50mm front fitted sumo bars and steering guard after putting a slight bend in the trackrod and steering bar, realy pleased with the transformation from the tatty old scrapper that I bought for £450! REAPER
That looks very good now it's painted, and the stickers break up all the red. I'm hoping to do the same to mine later in the year
steve_d
Do your rear springs always dislocate like that? Steve

Exmoor Beast
Yep Mine came from Land Rover like it and has extra side lockers built in B) ...I may have inadvertently modified the shape a bit myself with the aid of a tree or two Will
pathfinder
Do your rear springs always dislocate like that?Steve LOL that was one of the old springs that I used as wheel chock while lifting the front. fitted extended brake hoses anbd ended up replacing all the front end brake lines as the original ones broke away when I took the brake hoses off so that was a pain, and noticed that the wheel was slightly catching the radius arm so tried to adjust the seized up steering stop and it sheared off ! so need to fabricare something if I cant remove the old bolt. like the cousin there very similar I think its a cracking idea to remove the rear windows it looks much more grown up and more built for the purpose
pathfinder
here it is when I first got it after spending lots of time washing all the green stuff of it!
Godlykepower
That looks fantastic mate, job well done! If it were me, I would have left on the winch bumper, used a black A-bar with bigger spots & not had the "Land Rover" across the bonnet. But I still think it looks superb. B) Martin
pathfinder
Thanks for your feedback! the a bar was meant to be black but I was using a satin black spray can and had just rubbed down and sprayed the front bumper that my mate gave me off his td5 so when I came to the a bar there was not enough satin black left all I had was 2 big cans of silver wheel so I thought I would use that and could always change it at a later date if it didnt look right but I think it looks ok, the winch bumper was only temp it came off a united utilities td5 110 and originally held an hydraulic winch of which only the spool remained, the 'land rover' over the bonnet is a genuine part from the 07 defenders and I think it looks ok, it looks more modern, I must agree with the spots I bought x4 from ebay and I think they are a bit too small, they where originally going to go on the roofrack a pair on either side on the front camel trophy style but they looked stupid so off they came! Actually my original idea for this project was to make it into a camel trophy film unit replica, I have some mantec sand ladders, x4 new gerry cans and 3l of sandglow paint sat here that I will not use now, part of me wishes I had done it now. I need to do all the interior too I want a mud uk dash console and tunnel tray, and want to line all the footwells and rear loadspace with chequer plate, not sure about building some sort of built in box/chest/drawer in the rear, Would like to have a trolley dash at 'mobile storage sytems' but could never buy these items from them I cannot justify there over inflated prices like nene overland, devon 4x4,frogs island etc I am not muhamed al fayad
Godlykepower
Er, you have some sand ladders hanging about? Are they going to be used? If you fancy doing a deal on them, drop me a line. I have a storage drawer I designed & built myself too if your interested......I have to splurge & get something even more heavy duty than mine are. martin@juma-overland.com Martin

I am open to a deal but notice that you are in bedford and Im in lancaster so I dont know how that will work, have you got any pics of the drawer? Godlykepower
Here is a link to the thread that was started on the drawer build, there are pictures in it. Do you have pictures of the sand ladders at all? I would just come up and collect them, if the price is right. Dont know exactly WHEN I am getting new drawers, so may just have to buy them outright, if thats OK? Martin
