Filler/level plug removal trick

Recommended Posts

The filler/level plug on the swivel housing can sometimes be very difficult to remove. A 13mm spanner usually does it, but if the spanner slips, then vice grips or similar are then needed, which may well ruin the plug. You can use a normal socket to remove it though - just the wrong way round. You need a 15mm 1/2 drive socket and ratchet/T-bar. Put the socket the wrong way round on the plug, then put the square drive of the ratchet/T-bar in the wrong end of the socket. You can then undo the plug in the same fashion as undoing a normal nut/bolt.

I went about that a different way Les.

Two old sockets. One a 1/2inch drive, the other 3/8inch drive. pressed into each other, then welded....I now have a 1/2inch to 3/8inch female adaptor.....

my idea was to weld a nut onto a short bolt, then put a socket on each end and use this i the same fashion, then you an still use the sockets if they are not buggered
