joe1970 Posted April 27, 2009 Share Posted April 27, 2009 Took my landy 110 for its mot today which had ran out a month ago and had slipped my mind This is the 1st mot Ive had to put on this particular 110 so just took it as normal to the garage I always use to find out they carnt do it because its a class 7. This is my 4th 110 but the 1st which is a class 7 so caught me by surprise. Its an ex electric company 110, does this have anything to do with it? why are some 110s class 7 and others not? As a tester, I can confirm they will find the following fact. If a vehicle has a GLW under 3500kg, an unladen weight under 2040kg, has four wheel drive and is equipped to carry one or more passengers (including the front seats) then it is a 'dual purpose' vehicle for MoT purposes and should be tested as class 4. For a period they were apparently just putting in a default figure for land rovers. Had this with a LR I get MOT'd and we went through the same thing with the test station. freeagent Posted April 27, 2009 Share Posted April 27, 2009 I had the same problem with my old 300Tdi 110 Hardtop, the MOT place that had been doing it for the previous couple of years got a new tester that couldn't understand the rule book, and refused to do it. Take it to a landrover specialists, they will understand the rules and you'll have no more problems. I won't go back to the place that turned me down, as if they don't understand the rules, I don't really want them testing my landrover... It wasn't too much of a problem though as there was a commercial testing station nearby. As it turned out, the class 7 test cost less that class 4. It was back in 2006 and I don't have the paperwork as I don't own the vehicle only look after its maintenance. It is used by RAYNET. From memory I think it had an unladen weight in the V5 of 3050Kg (or 3500 not sure) whereas the correct figure should have been 1653Kg. We got the correct figure sent to us by LR heritage and used that as the required evidence. It then meets the MOT requirement as a Dual-purpose vehicle being equipped to carry both passengers and goods of burden. Having all wheels driven and weighing less than 2040Kg. joe1970 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Share Posted April 28, 2009 Well I tried 2 garages and neither would test it on a class 4. Took it to a garage what a friend recomended and got it done class 7 and it passed with a few advisorys, front brakes are just meeting the required standard and anti roll bar bushes have a slight bit play, other than that its ok. Had a chat with the examinar and he said he could of tested it class 4 and changed it back to class 4 if I wanted. But I told him not to bother because he charged me the same price as a class 4 and he will get my buisness next year. Edited to add: The exact and correct weight was available to the examinar via the vosa linked computer which was 1975kg so sending my V5 back to Swansea wouldnt of made much difference to which class it was coming up to be tested on the vosa computer.
