gelf
on my 300tdi when changing from 1st to 2nd it will grind unless im going very slowly or really press the clutch for along time before changing. Changing down into second is never a problem. Is it dying?
disco_al
Common Discovery fault with the R380 box. I have recently been advised to switch back to ATF in mine by a well respected local specialist with over 30 years experience with Landrovers - apparently the specs have changed again, and it is now recommended, as MTF is too thin for them now Will be trying it soon to see if the shift improves. Apart from fitting another box, not a lot can be done really, other than slow 1st-2nd changes
MartinK
Agree with Disco-Al. At one service, someon put EP90 in mine,a dn it was horribel 1st-2nd when cold (ok when warmed up). Been running on MTF for the rest of it's 155000 mile life, and it's sweet as a nut on that oil. It's a relatively common problem.

I'd really like to know more about this ^^^^. Actually, the subject deserves its own thread in the Int section. ..."specs have changed" means Land Rover issued a bulletin that can be searched for (not by me). stageonesimmo
Yeah, mines the same - only not as bad - I'm running MTF94 at present, but may change back to ATF as I only noticed an improvement for as long as it took the new oil to get abused then it went back to how it was - as ATF comes in a bit cheaper I'll change back next oil change......... Wish LR would make up their minds as to what's best for it - mind you most LR boxes have a character and mind of their own and so no 2 are ever alike anyway..........
