Published in the Surrey Advertiser on Friday there is a proposal to close a BOAT in Cranleigh. The Draft notice has also appeared

on the SC C website:-

http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/sccwebsite/sccwspages.nsf/LookupWebPagesByTITLE_RTF/Byway+Open+to+All+Traffic+395+Cranleigh?opendocument

The reasons given to close the BOAT are:-

i) - Current wear is considered significant with potential safety implications for equestrian and cycle users

ii) - The wear is being caused by 4x4 vehicles.

Lane location is given here http://www.trailwise.org.uk/do_quickfind.php?uid=TQ0436-01

If you wish to object to the proposed Order you must send the grounds for your objection in writing, quoting reference DS/DL/3/1/5, to Room 356A County Hall, Penryhn Road, Kingston, Surrey KT1 2DY not later than 2 November 2009.

Jeez! Surrey CC is really peeing me off with their TROs that claim '4x4 damage' when the evidence looks much more like natural rain water erosion. Take the TRO'd route that runs from Abinger up into Ranmore for example.

They seem to have forgotten how exceptionally wet it has been for the last 2 years.

I used to be all for seasonal restrained use of green lanes. Now a temporary TRO just appears to be a foot in the door to make the order permanent.

Let's see plenty of objections for this one please.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I hope to get my objection in on time .They cannot TRO for the reason of 'wear' as their DUTY under law is to maintain/repair the lane for ALL users ......but they will! because they rely on our ignorance/apathy & lack of financial wherewithall to counter their biased & arrogant proposals :(http://forums.lr4x4.com/public/style_extra/post_icons/icon7.gif

Beggars Lane? That don't have a TRO on it....

According to Surrey CC Website anyway - http://surreycc.gov....0of%20BOATs.pdf

Beggars Lane did have earlier on this year. I was out in the snow and came upon the TRO signs. It was a temp TRO for 6 months, but these have a nasty habit of becoming permanent. Not been up there for a while so I don't know the latest.

Beggars' TRO was extended from June for another six months. I go around the top and down London Lane into Shere instead :)

I don't think we'll be seeing Beggars Lane open again if I'm honest.
