Td5 Discovery axles

Anyone knows someone in Uk that is using Disco 2 axles for challenges?

apart from being wider, radius arms at the back and uncovered cvs in the front, what is the difference? are they any better than 24 spline axles? or the same, and do heavy duty shafts exist for them?

I'm dreaming of using a 35 inch tyre with arb lockers on them..Can they handle the stresses with normal shafts?

Thanks

IMHO the main advantage is that you can run a MUCH larger cv and shafts - it genuinely takes the front axle up to the strength of the rear axle. However, you still have a diff that isn't really up to the job.... If you really want to stay Rover and want strength then I'd wait for Ashcroft's Force 9.

Ahh, but the Force9 axles use a new, fabricated, open knuckle which allow you to run an even larger D60 type CV with 1.5" OD shafts.

Yes and even a larger wallet size :) Thanks all for your replies, seems there's no budget axles (landrover related) which can hold arbs and 35s...

Thanks

I've seen several Trialers use these axles. Don't exactly know why but would think it's because of the 24 spline shafts and the 4-pin diffs

Don't trialers use them because the wider front axle gives a better (than an older standard axles) turning circle?

I am probably wrong but i remember hearing it some where maybe from a bloke down the pub :D
