Maverik
I have a transplanted Disco 200 in my 90. The Defender 200TDi develops 103Bhp and the Disco develops 111Bhp. What are the differences in engine that can be attributed to this? considering they are practically identical engines... Apart from the intake manifold and the exhaust/turbo locations are different, where else do the engines differ? Looking at changing my fuel lift pump, is it specific to the Disco 200TDi. Thanks
cipx2
The Defender 200tdi engine makes 107 HP. The fuel lift pump is the same for both engines. The difference in power comes from the injection pump, see: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=48852
Orange
The whole front timing chest layout is different... Alternator, water and power steering pumps are in different positions. The flywheel housing is also different. The fuel pump creates the different power levels.
Ex Member
As stated in that post, the only real reason for the maximum power difference is the different governed maximum speed. So unless you need to rev above 3800 rpm, they will feel the same.... Turn up the fueling, if you want more power.
western
plus the turbo postion/manifold is different which may affect the bhp/torque outputs.
Guest noggy
I believe the Exhaust manifold is of such design on the discovery engine allowing faster and a more smoothly flowing gas flow.
