How do I get the subs to work??

I have installed my Sony head unit, and its all working fine, altho tinny with stock speakers. Then I find out there are subs in my tailgate, and a wee amp, but no sound coming from them. I plugged the head unit in using the ISO connector, there was one other lead there unused by me, but I assumed it was for the dash controls for the stock stereo. So now I'm wondering how do I get sound to these subs?? Looked on the Rave cd. but when it comes to electrics, it might as well be written in martian lol...

Anyone know how to do this?? I tried doing a search, but couldn't find the answer...

Cheers

Mick

Ignition switched power on White/Orange

Control signal on Blue / Yellow

Chassis Earth on Black

The audio comes in on a screened cable.

Any use?

So you won't understand pre-amplified outputs and input gains either then, better to go to a ICE shop and let there techie sort things out for u.

i know how to install normal amps with pre outs and power supplies. I assume this amp has its own power supply, or would that have normally come from a plug coming out of the original head unit. normally you would use phono leads to send the audio to the amp, now I dont remember seeing sockets for these on the amp, I have the outputs on the rear of my head unit, so how was the audio delivered to this LR amp??

I guess I know a bit more than I thought lol, and after lookin (properly) at what MrKev said i can see where the power is coming from the ignition. Earth is straight forward enough... "Control signal on Blue / Yellow" whats a control signal?? and finally "The audio comes in on a screened cable" how can I get audio from my head unit through this screened cable to the amp?

Sorry being a bit slow at the mo, currently off ill and my brain aint working that well :(

Cheers for all you help ;)

Control signal is a wire from the back of the head unit, which turns on when the head unit it switched on, and off when it is off, it is used to give a low current feed to turn the amp on and off with the head unit -do *NOT* use it as the live feed to the amp, you will blow your head unit up..... It is probably labeled, but I have seen them in orange or blue, normally :)

Look on the back of your head unit, there should be a couple of round connectors with holes in them (phono sockets, they used to be called as well as more currently RCAs), probably white and red, and maybe a yellow. One is likely to be labelled 'sub' if the head unit has a sub output, this is where you plug the screened cable into, and feed it to the amp, this is the audio signal. Depending on how many inputs you have on the amp (there will be either one or two) determines if you use a single output or both red and white to feed it. A sub output will be a mix of both left and right speaker channels, whereas white is just left, and red is just right.

Hope I haven't confused you :)
