Orange90-J-
hello mate, and welcome to the defender world. its a very typical problem for us all. on my latest defender (200tdi) it stopped working and it was just the wires in the transferbox that had come of... hope this is some help!
mike4444244
Check the switch and also the linkage isn't fouling on the sound insulation, like it was on mine! Also make sure you are actually engaging diff lock (jack a wheel up, if its locked you will be able to drive off the jack) Mike
tweetyduck
i've been told you need to drive 15 meters to get it on sometimes. Also isn't it a pin that goes into something on the diff. Others will know much much more. @Mike...LOL..crack...right on the money,,,, or lack of.
lansalot
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/lh/photo/kWZOWop3pLyJsWpeY9-0_g?feat=directlink Linkage slide like the above, the spring-loaded collar slides the cogs together. The light is engaged with a pin that rides up over that linkage. Maybe it's screwed out too far. Check it's actually engaging at all first before worrying about the light. LandyLee
I have this exact problem as well , havent looked at it yet but was expecting just the bulb to be gone as my difflock still works just no warning light
errol209
I have this exact problem as well , havent looked at it yet but was expecting just the bulb to be gone as my difflock still works just no warning light Another possibility is that the wiring (it goes from top front of bulkhead to transfer box switch along the chassis rail, and has a least one joint in it) has gone brittle, corroded and otherwise ceased to conduct. You can get to most of fairly easily (assuming the floorscrews will come out ) by taking the right hand floor panel out.

I`ve already got my floor panels off and your right i just traced wires ,, they were high resistance at gearbox end

Mine had turned into copper rust for about the last two feet, it just fell apart when I pulled. The reverse light wiring goes this way too eventually, but takes longer.
