Mr Bean
I'm thinking of doing a full restoration on my Disco1 XS. Can the roof and all other body panels be simply unbolted off? Can the whole body then be removed from the chassis to allow for a full restoration like a Series or Defender? Thanks
disco_al
basically, yes. grab a copy of the rave cd's and it tells you on there how to remove the various panels. body can be removed in one piece too.
ChrisW70
I've got a feeling (oo-er) that the roof is welded on the disco (was bolted on the RR). Wings, bonnet, doors etc come off, the rear quarters are usually glued, I think there's a few screws and bolts hidden away as well but the glue is usually the hardest part to break. Mr Bean
Well the sun roof has started leaking so the roof lining is coming off on Sunday. I will see then if there are bolts in it or not.
redneck
The rear quarter panels are bolted on with lots of bolts and mastic, pretty sure the roof is welded on though.
Mr Bean
So hopefully it should all come apart then? Which can let me make the chassis like new Then get some serious underseal on the boot floor and rear wheel arches especially Plus inner wings and battery usual places really Then a choice of what colour to change it... barmiebrumie
Roof is deff welded to the body shell, all doors inc t/gate, wings & quarter panels come off then you are left with the shell, think from memory there are 10 body mounts that hold it to the chassis, once removed you can then get to the chassis top & bottom to do any work & if the shell is on a ramp you can do all the restoration on that before refitting to chassis, BIG job though so good luck with, John
Mr Bean
Has anyone attempted this before?

Mr Bean
I think that we might start seeing the rebuilding of Disco's a bit more hopefully so there might be more advice soon.
