BogMonster
Once the oil rig has finished I am going to get the hydraulic power pack off it: http://www.offshore247.com/news/art.aspx?id=15807 378 litres a minute at 3000psi - anybody care to hazard what theoretical line speed you might get out of a Milemarker with this? western
you'll need a big truck just to carry the hyd pump & hoses.

sean f
Looks like an impressive power system, not sure how they measure drilling torque with that, fast acting pressure sensor on the top drive I expect. Was on the West Venture in Norway a while back very impressive, no traditional derrick but a double hydraulic ram system, one for drilling and another along side for making up drilling assemblies, (apparently they can drill two strings in theory but never have!). End up with an almost total silent drill floor!. Also typical Norwiegian luxury accomodation. For those not familiar with drilling... they use 2 hydraulic rams to move drilling string up to approximately 700,000 lbs through a stroke of about 110ft on this rig, thats a big pieces of kit. Normally this is done with a derrick a set of pulleys and a big winch.
