Getting a landrover? Bit of help please!

Hi all. I need your help to convince me to get a disco than (dare I say it?) a Shogun or Landcruiser. Basically I currently have a 94 reg Frontera which to be honest has been great, and had a few plays off road. But I need something larger for now having 3 children. Depending on how it goes I will have between 2 and 3.5 grand to spend plus maybe £500 for the Frontera. I would like a few more off road experiences and am a bit torn as where to go! This is where you come in . If it is a Disco, how do kids and their car seats get on with the fold down boot seats? I look forward to your posts! Thanks

Hi there,

I would not put my little chap (3 yrs) in the fold down seats of a discovery, not in a car seat anyway, they have to be forward facing. They are ok for when they are a bit older, and not in booster seats anymore,

He is mostly in the front (no passenger air bag) And i can only get 2 childs car seats on the rear seat, as they only have a lap belt in the centre,

You didnt say how old your children are? im only in the 3-4 year stage at the moment!

Bit of a mine field this! as there are so many kids car seats out there all with their own fitting requirements, but deffo no to toddlers in the boot!

Guess mums in the back again then!! :(

Regards

Ian ;)

Consider the rear door aperture on a Disco 1, or Disco 2.........it's not the easiest space to work with when you are trying to get in and out as an adult, let alone when you are trying to wriggle a car seat in the back. I would strongly suggest taking your car-seats when going to view/try one out. It may put you off...

Disco 2s have the Isofix system as standard, but D1s don't. As Ross says, you are bordering on 'old' Disco 2 territory with your budget. Have a hunt as a low-spec T or V reg may well be the way to go.

You might also consider finding a very late Japanese Import 300TDi. It'll be low mileage and have a good history with the added benefit of not being rusty underneath!!

As Fridge says, buy some spanners and a welder, and befriend a local parts supplier!!!!!

All good points made there. I am not afraid of working on a car myself as have always done so, and have a welder at work and quite a few spanners etc!!! But I would like not to be (even though I secretly enjoy it, something about fixing cars, must me a man thing!!!). I like the fact there is a lot of support out there and there is a good landrover specialist Rockingham landrovers less than 2 miles from me, but do they need all this support? Is that a bad thing!!!!??? I have considered keeping the Frontera as a pure off roader as it is still a decent car, 150k on the clock but with a new clutch, alternator, starter motor etc, but I don't have the storage space, plus the £500ish I'd get for trading in is most handy!!

What is the space like in a Rangerover with numerous children? By the way my children are, nearly 5, 3 and 0!!

Hopefully I will have the money next week, so hope to have my mind made up by then and then will find the right car, do not mind travelling 100-150 miles for a good one!

Any more advice much appreciated, or maybe a weekend swap of cars!!!??
