western
Scrape off the worst rust, repair if required then cover with chassis black paint & waxoyl underseal over the top.
Guest wunntenn
This months LROI has an excellent in-depth anti-rust article running over several pages with pictures - sound advice in it.
ajh
If you can't do localized sand blasting you NEED to wire wheel it and then apply a phosphoric acid rust converter or it will come back, and quickly.
lapperz
ive just wire wheeled over the holes and plated and welded, thats ok isn't it?
western
with a good coat of anti rust/paint & underseal it'll be fine.
Adam001
Personally each time I go off roading, water pours out of the chassis rails. So external coating is only probably 30% effective as the inside will stay wet and rot away much faster. I assume I am right in saying you ideally need one of those complete waxoiling services that can do some internally?

western
Yes, it will all help the chassis last longer.

reb78
I have a little welding to do before i continue waxoyling mine - nothing major, a hole behind the gearbox crossmember. Once i have done the outside, i would like to find someone with the correct tools to do the inside, as i'm just not convinced i can do that properly myself. When i changed the rear cross member last summer, the inside of the chassis rails did look in really good condition - what i could see seemed to be mostly covered in paint!
