steve g
My 90 is at just over 150k and over the last 6 months I've noticed a slight drop in power. It's not dramatic but noticeable that I frequently have to use a lower gear than I used to. It doesn't sound different and it's not producing any noticeable smoke (of any colour!). Perhaps it's just slowing up a bit in its old age (like me ) I know it's all very vague but I thought I'd just ask the team what they thought and if there was anything specific worth investigating. Thanks Steve
reb78
When is the drop in power experienced? If the servicing etc is all up to date, my first thoughts go towards timing and/or lift pump if they have not been recently checked/changed.
steve g
When is the drop in power experienced? Basically, all the time. It doesn't seem to be turbo related. S
cackshifter
I am with reb78, or even could be a fuel filter blocked. No.1 suspect has got to be fuel shortage, or there'd be smoke. Nigel
steve g
Presumably best to find a diesel expert to check the pump rather than 'any' garage? S
reb78
No need for a specialist for the lift pump. They are easy and cheap to change. A new Delpi one will set you back about £20. If it was the injection pump, that would require a specialist. see here for examples of lift pumps for the 300tdi: http://www.land-rover-parts-shop.com/shop/lrps/en/browse/Defender+90/3/0/8/21/
steve g
Yes - I meant the injection pump but thanks for the pointer - It's probably worth replacing the lift pump anyway at that price. S
poohbear
If you do change the lift pump use genuine - the cheaper pattern parts often fail after only a few months. Ask me how I know Dave.

Delphi should be fine - in fact i thought they were genuine...... (just dont buy Britpart!)
