cackshifter
Hi, I have noticed I can buy 5L Carlube full synthetic Triple R 5W/40 oil for just under £25 which is quite cheap for full synth. Ok I realise it's Tetrosysl oil, but it does seem to tick quite a few boxes regarding standards. So I just wondered if anyone had any experience of it? Or Carlube oils in general , eg they do a budghet EP90? Nigel
WarPig
Ive always put Millers or Castrol engine oil into my 1996 300tdi, but this year I decided to use Tescos own brand of oil. I figured that it might even be a higher spec oil than what LR were recommending in 1996? It seems to be running fine, but I guess time will tell. disco_al
£25 for 5w40!!!! blimey, we charge £19.20 for 5 litres.....and that's the Unipart branded stuff which is supplied by Fuchs. nothing wrong with carlube, i have got 80/90 in my transfer box, i use fuchs in the engine and the diffs though.... in this day and age, all oils should meet the minimum standard required for it's spec, the price reflects the quality of the additives used
Aragorn
I've used carlube stuff in the A4 without any problems.

TBH just because it meets the requirements spec doesn't make it the equal to another. It just means it's adequate. In any case my manual reflects what was available in 1997, but things have moved on quite a bit.
