Trevorevans
Guys I know of a v8 auto disco with a cracked block going cheap, what I need to know is if any of the parts excluding body, all of which I assume will be the same as it's from the same year, be any good for my 300 tdi manual i.e. are the diffs/axles the same ratio, is any of the drive train apart from the engine and 'box any good to me?. ThreeSheds
I have been told that the auto box on a V8 is valved differently to that of a diesel and changes up at too high revs. Apart from that I think you are allright.
Thys
What I do know is that after I T-boned a Toyota Fortuner (close to a Toyota Surf in other hemispheres) with my Discovery I 300 Tdi auto, we stripped a 1996 Disco V8 auto and the following parts fitted and worked: auto box cooler, brake booster, the inside engine bay fitted, but some mounting holes were not in the same position. piper109
I put a 96 300tdi engine and manual gearbox into a V8 auto late 98 Disco 1. I had very few problems. The biggest was changing the engine mounts. Holes for everything else was in place. I had to change the pedal cluster and the gear change area a little too though mainly just parts. The axles and the rest of the drive train are the same. The transfer cases are interchangeable except that the auto model has a neutral lock solenoid. I removed the solenoid and just replaced the closing plate. Had to swap the difflock linkage too. The axles and the rest of the drive train are the same. The V8 radiator wont fit as there is no room for the intercooler.
