ajh
So, clearly LR made an inferior part since they last a few months and then break again. Has anyone done up a version of the bracket that goes between the block and the downpipe that is a little more durable, and perhaps a lot easier to access? LandyManLuke
Mine's been on there at least 5 years? The cative nuts came off about 4 years ago, but I just welded some nuts on.
Les Henson
I don't think I've ever seen one that isn't broken. Les.
western
on my 200tdi downpipe, that bracket bolts directly into the engine block, don't have a nut plate fitted.
Les Henson
I've seen two types - M10 bolt through the bracket and into a threaded hole in the engine block, and a plate that has two M6 (?) welded nuts on. The plate bolts to the engine block with an M10 bolt, and the exhaust downpipe is then bolted to the plate with two M6 bolts. Les.
western
mine's the single M10 bolt to engine block variant, just looked in all the microcat & my parts book, it only shows the nut plate type.

I've the plate/M6 nut variant, where do they usually fail? the bracket itself, or the nuts?
Retroanaconda
The bracket snapped on mine early last year, i replaced it (fiddly job!) and all well since Will probably snap again soon
Les Henson
Only plate type I've seen is on a Defender and it was in good order still, but fiddly to undo. Single bolt type is also on the TD engine if I remember correctly. Les.
ajh
The ends where the large bolts go through have next to no metal so they crack. It's just use of inferior materials combined with a stupid design. Do the same with a piece of spring steel and it would last forever... but then this is the company who intentionally made their chassis rot out prematurely when there was a perfectly acceptable fix as well. ajh
Coming back to this; anyone know a part number for the single-bolt version? I'd really like to stop the vibration.
