The Badger
My water pump went, and the engine went to 110 ish degrees before I managed to turn it off, replaced the pump, still slightly overheats. Could this have damaged the thermo or temp sender?
PS_Bond
Think that's what killed my head gasket on the last engine... Keep an eye on coolant levels as well (or get a combustion check done). The temperature sender is just a thermistor IIRC so I wouldn't have expected it to be bothered by 110C.
Les Henson
You can expect the head gasket to blow in my opinion. You could remove the stat and see if it behaves itself. Les.
The Badger
Oh, I kinda thought that might have happened, another thing on the list. New clutch, new steering box and now... Fun times ahead. Quick one, does anyone know if the head gasket is the same as on a 300tdi?
Jack Sugden
Yeah It's the same gasket for the 200 & 300tdi
discomikey
did you bleed up the coolant system?
FridgeFreezer
Might have killed the stat, no harm in splashing out the massive cost of a new gen parts one for peace of mind or to prove the problem.
The Badger
True, the water is as air free as I can get it, I reckon it could be the thermo, strangely the thermo went on my other 2.8 TGV engine, and I changed it and it came all good. Plus this is an easy fix in comparison to the gasket, on the list, order new steering box, thermo and head gasket... It's better to order it all in one hit as I have to get it shipped out here, no one round here does LR.
The Badger
Actually, I just realised that the heater has also stopped blowing warm air, I think it means more than likely it's the thermo gone...
PS_Bond
Coolant level may well be below the temperature sender too, so you won't get a valid reading on it. BTDT.
