Mutley
Ok Guys and Girls here's today's Homework!..."WHY" I have just scrapped 6 knuckles, broke both my arms in 3 places, been blinded in 1 eye all whilst replacing the 4 knackered cotton reel supports (ERR2337) for the Air Filter housing on my 300tdi! Looking at how the old ones have perished/broke/split apart I would guess this wont be the last time I'm doing this job! So the question is WHY?... Why does the Air Filter housing need to be mounted on little bits of rubber and NOT just bolted directly on to the bracket mounting? Oh yeah and it better be a good reason, none of this "That's what the manual says" Rubbish! Cheers Mutley
Reiny
I don't want to be a wet blanket mate but you'll be doing this often! They shear constantly!
western
Oh yeah and it better be a good reason, none of this "That's what the manual says" Rubbish! possibly to prevent the air cleaner casing from cracking caused by excess vibration,
mmgemini
Easiest and cheapest way. Fit Mini exhaust hanger bobbles. You'll need to drill out the holes to fit the imperial thread. They are cheaper and last longer.
rusty_wingnut
I had mine bolted down for over 30k before I removed the engine
JimAttrill
I use a VW part - very cheap and they seem to be of harder rubber and last longer. Unfortunately my local spares shop knows what they are so I have no idea what the part no is. They are a barsteward to change though.
