if i remove the sump, will i be able to tap the end of the tube out from the inside so to speak??

any ideas would be appritiated!!

Yes I think you would, but that is pretty much sledge hammer to crack a nut territory. Not certain how much it sticks through either.

It's only held in place by the pressure of an o-ring .... and whatever carp has built up over the years, can't you get at it with long nosed pliers?

Not sure if these two pics will help you to see what you are trying to do?

How much is left in the block?

That's what the hole looks like without the tube in it

It is probably stuck in with dirt etc in the top of the hole that will stop the flanges and o-ring coming up..... a good scrape with a pointy thing would probably help :)

have been trying to get the damned thing out for bloody hours!!!

scraped, pulled, lost temper, scraped some more, further loss of temper!!

non of it is sticking out of the block its basically snapped after the end of the little rubber seal ie:- the rubber is still on the tube its the other end thats stuck in the block.

so thought my only option left was to remove the sump and knock it though from the other side. the pic you have given of the hole is what it looks like now but with the end of the tube stuck in it!!

would be a good a reason to do an oil change on it anyway!!

As a last resort before pulling the sump then I would try getting a coarse wood screw, the big coach bolt type from B&Q or the like and try screwing it into the tube and then yanking it out...

Failing that it's off with the sump, but sump removal isn't the simplest job..... there is no gasket just sealant holding it on, you'll need to cut the sealant so you don't distort the sump or it won't seal up properly again.

As your pal will need a new dipstick tube anyway, try folding the remains inwards towards it's centre that should release it enough to remove from the block.

The lower flange on the tube (below the o-ring) will make it difficult to collapse the tube in on itself, also being stainless will add to the difficulty.
