need4speed
Was looking at fitting some soundproofing inside the doors and was wondering what the most suitable stuff to use is? Obviously being inside the door it needs to repel moisture as opposed to absorbing it. Looked at stuff from noisekiller but at £40 for a half sheet seems a bit pricey. Dont even know if its waterproof. Any thoughts
Retroanaconda
I would just go with some lead flashing, or some of the bitumen sheet based soundproofing. I think with doors it's more about adding weight to reduce drumming. Defender doors are incredibly lightweight and flimsy, at least the earlier aluminium skinned ones are. need4speed
or some of the bitumen sheet based soundproofing Do you mean http://www.soundcont...&products_id=88 Is this a reasonable price? Just recalled that when i saw a 4x4 is born he used some self adhesive sheet to the inner doors. Who sells that stuff?
Retroanaconda
Was thinking a roll of lead flashing from Screwfix, would certainly be cheaper!
need4speed
Well you say that but just went onto the screwfix site and all the flashing seems pretty damn expensive. unless im looking at the wrong type?
tacr2man
i have recently rebuilt a 90 for soundproofing (its a 300tdi!!) I used the flashing from Wickes , comes in 6"wide roll . I also then covered with a 12mm thick closed cell foam ( http://www.ebay.co.u...=item45fd65ddb7 This appears to be same as LR used to line underside of gear tunnel on my 110 V8 CSW The two together have made an appreciable difference HTSH
Orgasmic Farmer
Not the "real" lead flashing (that is expensive..) but this type of stuff http://www.screwfix.com/p/flashing-tape-225mm-x-10m/72438
Orgasmic Farmer
All you are trying to do is to add some weight to flat panels to stop it resonating and drumming. There is a whole science behind it if you start reading on t'interweb but like everything you can make a big difference quite cheaply but gaining that small extra bit of perfection will start to cost a fortune
