Richy B
Hi all, I have purchased a gas welding set , all brand new pipes, gauges, flash back etc, I know the gauges screw direct into the bottles, but do/ should I tape up the othe joints ?? Thanks in advance
landroversforever
I would have thought they would all be done without.... tapers/tapered threads etc to make them seal. should be obvious looking at the joints.
zardos
It all depends on the joint type. The bottle to the regulator should be a bullnose type, the seal is made between the bullnose and the bottle, the seal is not made by the threads. Any threaded system would not seal properly at the high pressure in the bottle before the regulator. After the regulator, you will be at lower pressure and tapered threads might seal ok, though on air systems I've known tapered joints to leak at 100psi as the gas can still spiral up the thread joint. pete3000
Only if it leaks audibly, use a bit 1-2 turns. Only on inert gas though. Don't use grease or tapes for example on oxygen/flammable gasses
