rudd86
hi, fitting my disco 200 tdi into my 90 that currently has a 19j over this coming weekend, one question I have to ask is, will the coolant temperature sensor from my 19j engine fit into the 200 tdi thermostat housing so I can get the gauge to read a correct temperature? have done a lot of searching and it looks as if most people encounter problems here and ive read suggestions for about 8 different part numbers and different thread sizes. bit confused... cheers in advance. vulcan bomber
No its not a swappable item. Are you using a Defender or Disco engine?
ejparrott
Disco Dave.... Fit a VDO gauge, much more acurate.

stevebythesea
Glad you asked this question, as it could answer something that has had me worried for a while. My 90 has a 200 Tdi engine from a Disco, fitted by the last owner. However, and despite changing the viscous coupling, flushing the rad, changing the thermostat, the temperature gauge always reads on the high side. Never over heats, but plays on the subconscious. Could this be because the gauge and sender are not matched? Is that what this thread is about? Thanks in advance
ejparrott
In short, yes.
Briarston
I did this cconversion a while ago (Disco engine) The 19j temp. sender was a direct swap in my case, but never seemed to read correctly on the gauge although it seemed to read reasonably correctly before. My theory was that the more central sender position on the 19j head gave a more average engine temp. reading, while the Disco location at the thermostat housing was at the hotter part of the system, thus the higher reading. An aftermarket gauge was eventually fitted which seems to react as it should, climbing to just under 90deg. then dropping back as the thermostat fully opens. The tdi has a hotter stat than the TD so will read slighly higher on your gauge.
western
200tdi thermostat has a temp opening of 88 degrees, TD is 82 IIRC.
Tonks4x4
Use an adapter ERC8973 and the Sender Unit PRC2505.
