stobbie
I'm converting a EDC 300TDI to non-EDC I can buy a 300TDI injection pump, but it has no sprocket and it has not been locked at TDC. Can I just turn it to TDC, fit a locking pin and attach the sprocket of the EDC pump? Or is it less easy than that?
vulcan bomber
asuming the pully's are the same, yes. Locking pumps before removal is a myth.
SPendrey
Erm, are you doing three of them?!
RedLineMike
how do you intend to time the pump sprocket up to the internals of the pump as there is no keyway? the sprocket is also how you lock it to TDC aswell, normally you have to get an injection pump specialist to refit the sprocket & time it up through the back of the pump casing using a dti etc not the easiest of jobs
vulcan bomber
The sprocket or pully is fitted to the hub through slotted bolt holes.. its ok not to time it. Remove the hub and you have to retime the pump with a DTI.
stobbie
How can I tell if the hub has been off? The 22mm nut is on, but the seller did not take it of the engine himself. Is someone does not know how to remove the pump from the engine he may have been temped to undo the 22mm nut..

If its out it wont run and we can set about sorting it then.
Bluemoon
there is away of locking the pump , there is a bolt directly underneath the pump, loosen the bolt off, remove the shim, and tighten, assuming it is in tdc. I suppose you could totally remove and turn the pump until you see the locking point. Brian

You can only set them by measuring the rotation point and length on the delivery piston.
