gadget
The coolant level in my TD5 seems to be holding at a lower level than the min level. If i fill to the min level it eventually drops to about 3/4 inch lower and then stays at that level. Is this an indication that the filler cap is deteriorating? IanS
Mine's been like that for 3 years and 25,000 miles. I did fit a new cap last year but it made no difference so I've decided it's just a feature......
Buzza
Mine's had the same 'feature' from new nine years and 58k ago, dont bother to top it up anymore.

BogMonster
A feature on my V8 too but turned out to be water pump gasket in that case. The main coolant loss point on Td5s is the radiator, the plastic end tanks crimped onto an alloy core are a carp design and eventually start to leak along the crimp, it will either stabilise or continue to get worse. Look for pink staining along the join, on the radiator core, which is the pink out of the antifreeze. A new radiator sorts it, but if it isn't bad I wouldn't worry about it till it is, just keep an eye on the level. The reason it stabilises is that the increased room in the expansion tank means lower pressure at operating temp which means it is less likely to leak through any given weep point. As long as the "happy level" isn't not in the expansion tank it won't be a problem
Freypal
+1, my Td5 has done this for the 2 years I've had it. If I top it up it just drops again but always to the same point and no lower.
